Tom's Studio Lumos "Write" Refillable Fineliner
Tom's Studio Lumos "Write" Refillable Fineliner
I love fineliners and fibre-tipped pens, but unfortunately I have a terrible time making one last for it’s entire life cycle. Either the tip wears out before the ink runs dry, or in the case of a refillable pen, the (expensive) proprietary refill dries out before I can get any decent amount of use out of it.
Enter the Tom’s Studio “Lumos” refillable multi-tipped pen, which was designed to solve just this problem. The Lumos “Write” pen has a cotton reservoir that refills by capillary action, meaning that all you have to do is dip the end into your ink bottle to fill. The same mechanism feeds the fibre tip and keeps the ink flowing as you write (or draw, or highlight, etc.).
The Lumos “Write” ships with a firmer .3mm tip appropriate for writing, though it is compatible with other Lumos replacement tips should you wish to try something different like a softer fiber tip, brush pen, or other tip size. The cap features an o-ring to keep the tip from drying out, and can be posted on the back while writing. The Lumos measures approximately 6 inches long and weighs approximately 3.5oz / 100g.
Tom’s Studio describes the Lumos as “infinitely refillable,” meaning that both the tips and the capillary filler are intended to be rinsable and reusable (assuming you use fountain pen ink or another ink that can be easily cleaned). While both tip and filler will eventually wear out, they are inexpensive to replace. (Replacements sold separately.) The Lumos ships with detailed instructions on how to fill and refill the pen, as well as replace the various components. Tom’s Studio has a detailed How-To Guide on their website.
Package includes pen, one tip (.3mm), and one small bottle of black ink. The Lumos “Write” is only available in black at the moment.
