Platinum Preppy Wa "Modern Maki-e" Fountain Pens, Second Edition

$13.00

The Platinum Preppy is one of the classic fountain pens that serves as both a gateway into the hobby for new enthusiasts and a stalwart everyday carry option for seasoned fountain pen aficionados. With the Preppy Wa, Platinum has continued its limited edition series in six new patterns inspired by traditional Japanese designs. Each pen features a different design with a clear plastic cap, and fills with a Platinum cartridge (included) or a Platinum converter (sold separately). With silicon grease or o-ring, you can even turn the Preppy into an eyedropper.

Building on the success of their first “Modern Maki-e release, Platinum has released six new designs based on traditionally auspicious Japanese symbols. Unlike conventional Maki-e, this new finish is applied with silk screen printing instead of urushi lacquer on the underlayer, which is then sprinkled with colored powders such as gold and silver and hand-finished by Maki-e artisans. It gives more thickness compared to normal printing, while the reflections and shades of the powders create a three-dimensional feel. The six designs include:

  1. Hyotan (Gourd)

  2. Tachibana (Citrus)

  3. Koi no-Taki-Nobori (Carp Climbing Waterfall)

  4. Nasu (Eggplant)

  5. Yanagi ni Kournori (Bats and Willows)

  6. Asa Gao (Morning Glory)

Pens sold individually packaged. Made in Japan.
